You know, it’s been a real interesting experiment running this blog thus far, I must admit. It’s certainly gone in directions that I never anticipated and gotten reactions that I never would have expected. From cyborg sunglasses to blasting SuperDell to the highly “controversial” VDI, it feels like I’ve been all over the place. And therein lies the problem, I think.
A lack of consistency with the content, mixed with the fact that this blog is essentially the face which I present to the world for Greg Vandagriff leads me to really wonder what kinds of things I should be posting and whether I should be developing a personal brand with this site.
What do I mean by a personal brand? A friend of mine maintains a blog with his name as the domain name, similar to what I have going on here. The difference is that his blog is tightly focused on a subject he is passionate about, that he feels comfortable identifying himself with. Consequently, he ranks high for a very competitive term, and has been approached with six-figure job offers relating to his niche because somebody stumbled across his blog.
That is what I mean by establishing a personal brand.
I mean, dang. What kind of image am I establishing for myself with this blog? An image of utterly random zaniness? It’s enough to make a fellow rather self-conscious of himself.
What does this mean for you, my dear readers? It means you can probably expect some changes in the future regarding this blog’s content, focus, and consistency… for better or for worse. So I suppose I’m apologizing in advance if you don’t like the pending changes and miss any zaniness that might fade as a result of the change in direction.

What you need is a pseudonym for your darker zany side. Shameless linkbait in hopes of future monitization… Might I suggest vandagrifter.com
(I checked… it’s available)

Since he ranks so high for that term, that visibility has opened up opportunities. It’s one of the soft benefits from building a blog around your brand.

Glad to see this new direction and it looks great.
